YSL: Stefano Pilati Is 'Here to Stay'
One thing’s for certain: When Pilati presents his Fall 2011 collection in Paris on March 7, all eyes will be on him whether or not it’s his final collection for the house.
The rumor mill went into overdrive (again!) earlier this week when Kenzo PR tweeted a cryptic message that seemed to indicate YSL creative director Stefano Pilati was on the outs.
“Just heard BIG news about this being a certain designer at an established French house’s last season and being replaced by someone major!” the tweet read (it has since been taken down). “CEO has just left and now the designer replaced by someone who has moved away from design the last couple of years but stayed in fashion.”
With YSL’s CEO having recently decamped to the States to join Reed Krakoff—not to mention that rumors about Pilati’s departure from the brand have been swirling for nearly a year—the tweet seemed clearly aimed at the house of Yves Saint Laurent, with Hedi Slimane’s name coming up as a would-be successor.
Not so, says YSL. According to a tweet from the company this afternoon, Pilati’s staying put. “From YSL HQ in Paris … Pilati busy working on the next collection. All the rumors unfounded—he is here to stay,” the tweet from @Y_S_L reads.
