Alber Elbaz Wants to Stay at Lanvin ‘Forever,’ Compares Job to Marriage
Now that that pesky empty Dior seat has been filled, we can stop speculating about every designer under the sun nabbing it—Alber Elbaz incuded. And that suits Elbaz just fine.
In a charming profile of the beloved designer in the New York Times, writer Eric Wilson asks Elbaz whether or not he sees his position at Lanvin as a permanent one.
“I want to say yes,” Elbaz replied. “It’s like, when you marry someone, you swear you are going to spend the rest of your life with that person. I will say yes, but you know, you never know.”

Funny enough, Elbaz refers to himself as “the mommy” at Lanvin, with the daddy’s role filled by Shaw-Lan Wang, the Taiwanese owner of the company. When the Dior job talk came up—though Elbaz is vague about any negotiations that may or may not have taken place between himself and Dior’s Sidney Toledano—Elbaz said that he couldn’t imagine leaving his team at Lanvin.
“I could not say to them, mommy’s getting divorced now,” he said.
Though much has been made of the so-called sanctity of marriage recently, we’d rather not get into politics. Let’s just say that Alber and Lanvin is one union we’re particularly rooting for.
