It's Official: Raf Simons Is In at Dior
Finally!
After over a year of speculation over who might fill the shoes of the ousted John Galliano, the house of Christian Dior has named its new designer: Raf Simons.
Simons, who recently was dismissed from the helm of Jil Sander after Sander herself came back to the company, will be announced as the house’s new artistic director, the New York Times reports.
“The first time I heard about the Dior position, I thought, ‘This feels right,’” Simons told the Times’ Cathy Horyn.

Simons beat out a veritable who’s who of designers for the position, including Marc Jacobs, Riccardo Tisci, Haider Ackermann, Hedi Slimane, and Azzedine Alaïa, among many others. His first collection will debut during the Fall 2012 haute couture season in Paris in July. It will be Simons’ first time creating a couture collection.
“I’m not one of those people who would say, ‘Ah, couture makes no sense anymore because everything today should be accessible,’” he said. “Clearly there is an interest from people in this level of creativity.”
