Vena Cava Partners With LF USA
After rumors flew late last year that beloved label Vena Cava might shutter after potential investors backed out, it looks like the line is getting its second chance.
Designers Lisa Mayock and Sophie Buhai have partnered with manufacturing giant Li & Fung, the company that also controls the clothing lines of Rachel Zoe, Sofia Vergara, Daisy Fuentes and more. The multi-year licensing and design agreement—not an acquisition—leaves the creative control in the hands of Mayock and Buhai while tapping the vast resources of LF USA, a subsidiary of Li & Fung.
“We are beyond excited to take Vena Cava to the next level with the support of LF USA—the industry destination for creative partnerships,” Mayock and Buhai said in a statement. “Their guidance and expertise will make it possible to execute the vision we have always had for Vena Cava. We look forward to building an amazing brand together.”

“Driven by an innovative design vision, Vena Cava is one of the most sought-after young, emerging apparel brands in the industry,” said LF USA president Rick Darling. “Lisa and Sophie’s design sensibility and understanding of the millennial consumer are unique and we see tremendous opportunities to support their distinct design talent and extend the brand’s influence into additional product categories. As we continue to strengthen our position as a design-driven organization, Vena Cava is a great addition to our fashion portfolio.”

Looks from Vena Cava's Fall 2012 collection.
We’re just pleased to see Vena Cava on solid financial ground again. After eschewing a show for their Spring 2012 collection (instead, they hosted a small presentation), the label bowed out of February’s Fashion Week. Vena Cava’s production has been on hiatus—but this news means that stores should be seeing Buhai and Mayock's creations on the shelves again soon.
