OVERALL TAKEAWAY: A more put-together and flattering version of the ’90s

KEY LOOK: A fitted, navy-and-black, lace and crinkled-chiffon gown with an open back crisscrossed by spaghetti straps

If the pre-show handout ’Zina Cava— a black-and-white zine featuring photos of a braces-wearing Gwen Stefani and Blossom-hatted Kate Young—didn’t get the ’90s theme across, the 23 looks that followed certainly did. Spotted in the lineup: wide-leg pants; crop tops; crop tops paired with high-waist, wide-leg pants; spaghetti straps; and ankle-length fitted gowns, some with what the notes called a “Xerox print.”

Though the show opened with a storm soundtrack and the collection was composed of an almost all-dark palette with just a few bursts of salmon, the ’90s vibe felt condensed and almost refined, rather than like a morose postmortem.

Certain Vena Cava signatures remained from seasons past—there was at least one halter dress and more than a few instances of colorblocking.

But the overall look should pluck just the right heartstrings for those seeking a more elegant take on a decade that’s starting to get just the right soft light now.

After all, anything you got in 1991 can now be called vintage.
