Who's Congratulating Haider Ackermann on Snagging the Dior Job?
The rumor mill goes and goes, and where it stops, nobody knows. We’ve come to terms with the fact that we won’t know who the new Dior designer is until the words come straight from Sidney Toledano’s lips—but that doesn’t mean we can’t delight in this dishy little news nugget.
Vogue U.K. reports that on Wednesday, a bouquet of flowers arrived at the Dior headquarters in Paris—addressed to Haider Ackermann.
Of course, it could be some kind of mistake or address mix-up (although Vogue points out that Ackermann’s offices in Paris are over three miles from Dior HQ), but it could also mean that someone has sent a little premature congrats to Ackermann on scoring the gig that the whole fashion world is talking about.

“Let the rumors talk,” Ackermann told Women’s Wear Daily in June of speculation that he might head to Dior. “But I would, at a certain point, accept a house which might fit me and which I would feel comfortable with–but there are not many.”
Jil Sander’s recently-ousted designer Raf Simons is also among those assumed to be in talks with Dior, though Hint Mag reports that he asked for too high a salary, which “outraged” Dior CEO Toledano and drove him to extend Bill Gaytten’s contract. Gaytten, John Galliano’s former right-hand man, has held the reins at the brand since Galliano’s departure, but with lukewarm reviews at best, he was initially assumed to be a temporary fill-in.
We may learn more when the Dior Fall 2012 collection is presented on Friday in Paris...then again, we might not. Until then, when it comes to this designer waiting game, may we suggest a walk-off?
