The famously humble New York Times fixture and original street-style photographer, Bill Cunningham, will have to get ready for his close-up come spring when he will receive the Carnegie Hall Media of Excellence award on April 23, Women’s Wear Daily reports.

Cunningham, who’s been snapping sharply-dressed men, women and children for the Times for nearly 50 years, used to lived in a tiny studio apartment inside Carnegie Hall—so even though the gala will take place at the Waldorf-Astoria, it should be a homecoming of sorts.

And while he’s managed to stay behind the camera for much of his life (with the exception of his documentary, Bill Cunningham New York), the star-studded event will ensure that he’ll get his share of the spotlight.

Annette and Oscar de la Renta and Sarah Jessica Parker are chairs of the awards gala, with Diane von Furstenberg and Barry Diller, Terry and Tina Lundgren, and Mercedes T. Bass serving as co-chairs.
