Pantone Color of the Year 2012: Tangerine Tango
Tangerine Tango 2012's Color of the Year
Take a hike, Honeysuckle. There's a new color in town.
Pantone has decreed that the Color of the Year for 2012 will be the flamboyantly named Tangerine Tango, a "spriited reddish orange" that recalls sunsets and, if you ask us, a certain Fire Dress.
"Sophisticated but at the same time dramatic and seductive, Tangerine Tango is an orange with a lot of depth to it," Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, says in a press statement.
"Reminiscent of the radiant shadings of a sunset, Tangerine Tango marries the vivaciousness and adrenaline rush of red with the friendliness and warmth of yellow, to form a high-visibility, magnetic hue that emanates heat and energy."
No wonder it's so hot. Featured in Pantone's Spring 2012 Color Report, the hue has popped up in collections from the likes of Tommy Hilfiger and Nanette Lepore, and is tipped to carry its popularity into Fall 2012.
And let's not overlook its impact on the beauty world. Pantone has also revealed that it will partner with Sephora on a limited-edition beauty range inspired by its Color of the Year.
Set to launch in March 2012, the Sephora + Pantone Universe collection will include nail color, eye shadow, lipstick, lip gloss, and accessories.
"These products allow for on-trend, uninhibited expression, while being exceptionally wearable," says Gilbert Soliz, lead artist for Sephora PRO.
"Whether she is looking to create a bold look featuring Tangerine Tango, or if demure trend expression is more her style, the collection allows for customized wearability."
Well, color us beautiful!
