The loss of a legend: Hollywood costume designer Ray Aghayan has died.

Legendary costume designer Ray Aghayan has passed away at the age of 83, leaving behind his longtime partner (and former assistant), fashion designer Bob Mackie, People StyleWatch reports.

A cause of death has yet been revealed for the Iranian-born Aghayan, who won the first-ever Emmy Award for Costume Design (for 1967's Alice Through the Looking Glass) in addition to picking up three Oscar nominations (for Gaily Gaily, Lady Sings the Blues, and Funny Lady).

He was also up for a Tony for his work on "Applause" in 1970.

Aghayan's most recent high-profile project was designing costumes for the 69th Annual Academy Awards in 1997, while his life partner Mackie is perhaps best known for his elaborate Cher ensembles.

Meanwhile, Martin Scorsese gets an A-list photo tribute in the November Harper's Bazaar.
