Ralph Lauren Drops Polo from Name
No stranger to name changes (its eponymous founder/designer was born Ralph Lifshitz), Ralph Lauren will be ordering some new business cards once again.
The label's shareholders voted on August 11 to change its company name from Polo Ralph Lauren Corp. to simply Ralph Lauren Corp., Women's Wear Daily reports.
The reason for the updated moniker? Many of the label's lines—including its new Denim & Supply Ralph Lauren collection—do not carry the Polo logo or name. In 2008, the company rerouted its Polo.com Web site to RalphLauren.com.
Speaking of his company's strong stock value, Lauren appears to have a healthy attitude to go with the new name.
"This company is, as far as I am concerned, at the beginning," he told shareholders. "I can only tell you this company is as solid as we ever think it should be.”
Meanwhile, Michael Kors has sold a minority stake in his business.
