Emily Current and Meritt Elliott, L.A. stylists and the design duo behind beloved denim brand Current/Elliott, are flexing their sartorial muscles one again, this time with a handbag line for Kate Spade.

Westward by Emily & Meritt for Kate Spade New York (the collection gets its name from the formers' West Coast home base) will hit stores in August, with five different styles ranging from a wallet to a duffel.

“We’ve always loved Kate Spade New York for its classic charm, distinctive, convicted aesthetic and impeccable quality,” Current and Elliott said in a joint statement. “As stylists, designers and women on the move, we’ve identified the essential elements—in look and function—that we both need and love in our bags.”

The collection, which will retail between $245 and $1,295, is made of leather (some ostrich-embossed) and suede, with antiqued hardware; a few styles featuring embellishments like metallic sequins.

“Working with Emily and Meritt was such an inspiring departure from my everyday design work with the Kate Spade New York collection,” said Deborah Lloyd, Kate Spade’s creative director. “They brought such a spirited West Coast vibe to the process, and we are thrilled with the result.”

The collaboration has a charitable bent as well: in celebration of the project, Kate Spade made a donation to the Phase One Foundation, an organization that supports cancer research and awareness.
