Undie Awards 2011: High-Waisted Briefs Win Big
So long, thongs.
The hotly anticipated (to us, anyway) 2011 Undie Awards have been announced, and it appears that women aren't feeling quite as cheeky as they used to.
The annual poll's 40,000 voters named the Vanity Fair Lace Nouveau Brief, a high-waisted, full-coverage brief that wouldn't be out of place in the Mad Men wardrobe department, as Favorite Overall Panty.
"The first year we launched the awards, the thong silhouette was the runaway choice for most of the ladies," lingerie expert Tomima Edmark explains in a press release. "Now, the trend has shifted and more boyshorts are winning votes. It’s also fun to see a return to women wearing comfortable ‘granny panties.’"
Sorry, boys. But all is not lost. Hanky Panky was a double-winner for their Signature Lace Thong (Favorite Thong) and Stretch Lace Boyshort (Favorite Boyshort), while Calvin Klein CK One's Microfiber G-string Thong claimed Favorite G-String.
Coverage was also popular in the shapewear category, with the Barely There Invisible Look Hi-Waist Smoother, which runs from just below the breast to mid-thigh, claiming victory.
Things took a sexier turn in the bra category, with the plunging Timpa Duet Lace Underwire Bra winning Favorite Overall Bra (Average Figure), suggesting a trend of small-breasted women turning away from heavily padded bras. Meanwhile, curvy gals gave the Fantasie Smoothing T-Shirt Bra its third Undie Award by naming it Favorite Overall Bra (Full Figure).
A leisure bra category was also added for the first time thanks to a growing popularity in sports bras.
Let's not forget the fellas. Calvin Klein woven boxers, 2xist knit boxers, Munsinger briefs, and Polo Ralph Lauren cotton tees all took home prizes. What, do Rafael Nadal's powers of persuasion only work on us?
Undie Awards sponsors HerRoom.com and HisRoom.com are offering a 15-percent discount on the winning products. Time to get your granny panty on!
