Jenna Lyons’ Pink Nail Polish Controversy

Jenna Lyons has sparked quite the controversy by painting her sons toenails pink.

In J.Crew’s latest catalog, president and creative director Jenna Lyons is shown having a laugh with her adorable son Beckett as she paints his toenails with hot pink Essie polish.

"Lucky for me I ended up with a boy whose favorite color is pink,” reads the photo caption. “Toenail painting is way more fun in neon." (The retailer sells a selection of Essie shades in stores and online.)

But the sweet Saturday activity has Fox News in a frenzy, quoting doctors and media researchers who call it “blatant propaganda celebrating transgendered children.” (The offending image can be seen here.)

“This is a dramatic example of the way that our culture is being encouraged to abandon all trappings of gender identity,” psychiatrist Dr. Keith Ablow said in a FoxNews.com column.

Or maybe it’s just a 5-year-old boy having fun with his fashionable mom?

The darling little Beckett is hardly the first person with XY chromosomes to sport nail polish; men all along the scale from transgendered to straight-as-an-arrow have been wearing it for years. (And is it just us, or is trying to define a 5-year-old’s future sexual preference more than just a little inappropriate?)

J.Crew reps say the company has no comment.

Needless to say, we’re Team Jenna over at FashionEtc. What are your thoughts?

And see which celebrity also paints her son's nails.
