Vidal Sassoon Dies at 84
A beauty industry icon has passed.
Vidal Sassoon, the legendary hairstylist, died at his Los Angeles home, the Los Angeles Times reports today. He was 84. Details of his death aren’t immediately available, although the Times reports that he had been suffering an unspecified illness, and his family was with him at the time of his passing.
Sassoon, who was the subject of a recent documentary, opened his first salon in London in 1954. He became famous for his 1963 take on the bob: a short, angular cut that became his signature and remains influential today.
In the 1980s, Sassoon launched his own range of hair care products in the United States with Procter & Gamble. They are still sold under his name.
The fashion and beauty industries would not be the same without Vidal Sassoon. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.
