WWD Beauty Inc Awards: 2011 Winners
If there’s ever a time when the beauty industry seems oh-so-necessary, it’s at 7:30 in the morning.
Not surprisingly, the best and brightest in the beauty industry had not a bag under their collective mascara'd eyes at the 10th annual Beauty Inc Awards, held on December 8 at the Four Seasons in New York.
The awards ceremony started on a poignant note with the first-ever Corporate Social Responsibility Award, which honored the late Evelyn Lauder, who passed away last month at the age of 75.
“There could be only one person to be the inaugural recipient,” said Pete Born, executive editor of Beauty Inc (a Women’s Wear Daily publication), of Lauder.
“She lit up the world—literally, bathing buildings in pink light.” Her son, William Lauder, accepted the award on his mother’s behalf.
Other new awards this year included the Eco Awareness Award, which went to Pantene Nature Fusion, and the Digital Innovator of the Year Award, which went to Birchbox (in the prestige category) and Neutrogena (in the mass category).
The morning’s other heavy hitter was Sir Lindsay Owen-Jones, the honorary chairman of L'Oréal.
“It's where I first learned never to take no for an answer,” said Owen-Jones of his many, many years with the company, in his video acceptance speech (he was unable to make the awards ceremony, but his daughter accepted the award on his behalf). “What we all have in common is a single minded passion for beauty and innovation.”
