Christian tell us how the partnership with Magnum and chef Andrew Carmellini came about?
When MAGNUM Ice Cream approached me about partnering with them and the talented Chef Andrew Carmellini, I was ecstatic! I’ve always admired Chef Andrew and found his infusion of flavors to be inspiring and as MAGNUM has partnered with a few of my favorite designers, like Karl Lagerfeld and Zac Posen, I thought this was the perfect opportunity to take my creative skills in a new, fun direction.
Magnum has done some amazing collaborations. Were you a fan before you started working with them?
I actually went to the brand’s launch event with Karl Lagerfeld and it was so inspiring, from that point on I was hooked! So absolutely, I’ve always been a fan. Every day around 4:00 p.m. our office takes a mini MAGNUM Double Caramel Bar break, it’s our guilty pleasure.
Growing up as a child, what was your favorite ice cream or desert?
I have always been an ice cream lover, you can’t go wrong with a classic banana split. Also can’t get enough of raspberries and angel food cake, yum.
What was your inspiration when creating “America’s Most Fashionable Desert"?
I wanted to create something that was full of flavor and fashion, but also really simple to create. I pulled a lot of inspiration from the hottest trends right now, like modern lace embroidery, tribal textures and citrus color blocking. This was about pairing premium ingredients with fashion to create something truly delectable for women.
I noticed similar elements of color in your recent Resort Collection for 2015?
Definitely, I recently took a trip to Mexico and was so inspired by all the food. I mean, color was just everywhere, like the exotic fruits and herbs. I really wanted to play up the fun citrusy elements and you will also see that in my new collection.
You have had a busy summer. Any other upcoming projects or collaborations?
It has been a busy summer, but a fun one! There is a lot coming up, my new collection will be out in stores September/October and I also have a fragrance coming out this fall.
