OVERALL TAKEAWAY: Quiet luxury
Clean and simple was the name of the game this season for Carolina Herrera, who showed a pared-down, “for the real women” collection of dressed-up day wear and after-dark ensembles.
Smart gray suits and shift dresses were pieces her customers will easily wear for a lifetime, though eye-catching luxe details weren’t completely absent, a long-sleeve, beaded polo and fur touches among them. (Siri Tollerod’s black boatneck dress trimmed with fur at the neck couldn’t be more perfect for a latter-day Princess Grace.)
Pops of bright color were welcome, particularly a bright vermilion that appeared in a bracelet-length day dress and a bright blue sleeveless sheath.
For evening, there were flashes of classic Carolina, like a long, robin’s-egg blue taffeta skirt topped with an elaborately full-sleeve blouse, and a rich eggplant organza gown, its top half the elegant collared blouse that’s become Herrera’s personal signature.
Was there a wow factor? Not necessarily—but that won’t stop red-carpet walkers from clamoring after her wares, and there was all the more to choose from for the rest of us.
