Richard Chai was recently named the creative director of outdoors brand Filson—an apt appointment for a designer who’s never been the go-to for girly types. And while the actual Filson pieces—oversized duffels, backpacks, and hoods—were shown as part of Chai’s menswear collection, the sensibility definitely found its way into the women’s Love collection as well.

Classic menswear-inspired overcoats were a key piece in the collection, coming in shades of rust, navy, and camel and often given a utilitarian edge with oversized cargo pockets—great for the girl that prefers to go bagless. There were also parkas, wide-leg corduroy pants, and great trim wool trousers in a tonal gray horizontal stripe.
But Chai didn’t forgo femininity altogether. Wide-leg trousers also appeared in silk, often sheer or in a deep pink abstract floral print and paired with a chunky knit. The same print appeared in silky little dresses and even a floral puffy coat—a perfectly sweet spin on something ultimately functional.
