Richard Chai Named Creative Director at Filson
Whether it’s in his collections or his personal wardrobe, Richard Chai often prefers pieces with a bit of a utilitarian bent—so his latest gig seems to fit right in.
Chai has been named the creative director of rugged, outdoors brand Filson, Women’s Wear Daily reports. His first collection for the brand will be a capsule for Fall 2012: Chai will put his signature spin on six classic Filson jackets, the brand’s Packer Hood, duffel bag, utility belt, and rucksack, which will all be integrated into his men’s runway show on February 9.
“I’ve been a fan of Filson for years,” Chai told WWD. “I love the timelessness and practicality in their design. Our partnership will be rooted in everyday wear, approachable with unexpected fabrications and details that are signature to my collections, all while staying true to the heritage of the Filson brand.”

“Richard is the ideal creative partner not only because he shares Filson’s values in craftsmanship, high-quality fabrications and classic, practical approach to design, but because of his passion for our brand’s heritage,” Mark Korros, Filson’s president and CEO, added.
The collection will be sold at department stores, specialty stores, and Filson Direct.
