Looks from the Thakoon Spring 2012 runway

Show: Thakoon

Theme: Classic Americana with a dash of India

Accessories: Bright cowboy hats, slingback cowboy booties with metal cap toes

Hair: Odile Gilbert

Overall Takeaway: A bright, busy collection for cowgirls the world over

Before the show began, dramatic, twanging music straight out of a Western played in the opulent ballroom of the Plaza. And then there she came, guns blazing: Thakoon's first look, a bright turquoise and orange lace skirt paired with a blazer; the model's cotton candy pink hair topped off with a cowboy hat. Even for a designer who's made his name with ebullient prints and colors, it was a bit of a surprise.

It was more than a little bit country, but with a classic Thakoon spin: bandanna-ish paisley prints, western shirts with a heavy guipure lace yoke, even the designer's sexy take on the cowboy boot: a pointy-toed slingback bootie with metal-capped toe. As the show progressed, it took on, curiously, an Indian bent. (And we're not talking cowboys and Indians here, but rather the country in South Asia.) Sari styling looked a bit out of place, but the Indian-inspired beading and embellishment lent a lovely dressed-up air to the later looks.

If the themes got a bit heavy-handed at times, there were still some more wearable looks: a bright turquoise tank dress heavily embellished with gold beads, cute printed tap shorts and flippy skirts, and the last look, a gorgeous trench jazzed up with plenty of beading.
