The brand that made cruise collection a household phrase, Chanel has turned what was once a purely commercial trade presentation into an extravaganza. Held this time in the South of France, the collection offered up casually elegant clothes—well, casual for Chanel. Nautical pajamas and swimwear, white maxi dresses, and even culottes walked down an outdoor runway. It was tres chic, no?

Frida Giannini’s collection was pure luxury. Lamé gold and bronze skirts, blouses and jackets paired with white or black were simple in one respect, but so very Gucci in another. Nautical hues came through, as did patterns. But the more basic colors were the standouts by far, including a white and black maxi with floral corsagelike detailing.

The new prince of the social and celeb set would no doubt be a natural for resort. His floral prints (on blouses and dresses) didn’t veer too far into spring. His pairing of a blue tuxedo (and bow tie) with shorts made for an adorable evening look. But what Wu always does best is the dress. And he didn’t disappoint. Slightly fitted at the bodice with pleated flared skirts, the dresses were perfect vacation looks.

Marc by Marc Jacobs’ resort collection was filled with clothes that cool city (and cool country) girls would wear. No anchors and no nauticals, but plenty of bold red and navy popped up. But not in a combo that was obvious and screamed “I'm going on a boat!” His botanical one-shoulder dresses were lovely, and let’s hope we see more of these. And the cuter than cute dresses were feminine, sweet, and just what you want to wear for a nice night out.
