Carine Roitfeld Named Global Fashion Director of Harper's Bazaar
Vogue's loss is Harper's Bazaar's gain.
The magazine has announced that it has hired former Vogue Paris editor-in-chief Carine Roitfeld to be its global fashion director, a role which will have her collaborating with Harper's Bazaar U.S. creative director Stephen Gan on spreads and cover shoots for all 26 international editions.
The March 2013 issues will mark the debut of Roitfeld's collaboration, though the French fashion icon will remain free to pursue other style projects, including her biannual CR Fashion Book.

"I am thrilled to be contributing to Bazaar, a brand with a rich history of creativity," Roitfeld says in a press statement. "Working with Stephen and a roster of talented photographers will be a wonderful collaboration and one that will give these stories a truly global audience."
"This collaboration marks the first time anything like this has been done and we're very excited about what Carine will bring to Bazaar editions around the world," adds Duncan Edwards, president and CEO of Hearst Magazines International. "She is a visionary in the fashion world and we are so happy to be working with her."
Roitfeld's hiring is just the latest daring move by the magazine, which recently unveiled a revamped design as well as a partnership with frequent Roitfeld collaborator Terry Richardson for its increasingly edgy cover shoots (see: Nicole Kidman at a monster truck rally).
