Life's a Picnic at Oscar de la Renta Resort

Yesterday's Manhattan downpour didn't exactly scream "picnic weather," but inside the Oscar de la Renta showroom yesterday, everything was coming up cabbage roses, gingham and cheery brights.

After a graphic black-and-white opener, the show exploded into a full spectrum, heavy on the red, coral, blue and green. Full-skirted '50's-style gingham dresses were a standout, while peplums are evidently here to stay: they appeared everywhere from tops to a drop-dead emerald evening gown. For those who couldn't wait for the clothes until post-show, some instant gratification was available in the form of a bejeweled baseball T, which was for sale on TheFancy.com the moment the designer took his bow.

And you may want to hang on to those statement earrings—the primary-hued pairs at de la Renta's show were particular standouts. Bejeweled belts, white laser-cut heels and chunky bangles completed the accessory look.

The beauty look was colorful as well, with bold-hued extensions woven into chignons for a very uptown take on the candy-colored coif trend. Oscar's front-row ladies, from va-va-voom Annabel Tollman to daring Linda Fargo to quirky model-slash-blogger Julia Frakes, were a varied bunch, but each would find something to suit her in this lineup.
