Mark Ruffalo makes his directorial début with Sympathy for Delicious and stars in the movie as well. At a Monday screening at New York’s Landmark Sunshine Cinemas, the actor gave this advice on directing oneself: “Don’t ever do it, that’s all I can say.”

Orlando Bloom, who plays a rock star in the film, had nothing but compliments for Ruffalo’s directing chops.

“As a director, there was a shorthand between two actors. I just understood exactly what he wanted, and he just expressed himself so clearly and it made the whole process so much more fun,” the new father said.

Bloom’s wife, supermodel Miranda Kerr, slipped into the screening unnoticed and later partied by his side at the after-party at the Mondrian Soho’s lovely Garden Room.

Carrie Bradshaw: We can't get enough of her fabulousness. Manolos, Jimmy Choos, breakups on Post-it notes, a wrenching relationship with an unavailable man, a dramatic rescue in an over-the-top Christian Lacroix haute couture gown, and the exemplary friendship she shares with her three partners in crime, who somehow make it all OK.

Candace Bushnell knows we want more, more, more. Her latest book, Summer in the City, is sure to be a must read.

"It just seemed like the right time to look at Carrie's back story," explained Bushnell. "When we meet the characters, we meet them in the '90s, and they're in their 30s, but they came out of the early '80s in New York City."

Jay McInerney, along with his wife Anne, fittingly gave the book party for Summer in the City at their beautiful apartment, designed to perfection by Robert Couturier.

"I love Candace, she's one of my oldest friends. I met her in 1980 when I came to the city, and we've been really close friends ever since," said our host.

Charles Askegard (Bushnell's husband), Martha Stewart, Steve Kroft, Diana and Gary Fisketjon, A.M. Homes, Laurie Durning, Brooke Geahan, and Edward Chapman were all there to celebrate, mingling on the terrace, rejoicing that spring had finally arrived.

"You're going to the preview of the Auto Show? I'm so jealous! When does it open?"

Yes, it's true. I went to the April 21 preview of the Auto Show, benefiting East Side House Settlement, and this was, by and large, the reaction I got when I told most anyone about it.

To be able to see the hottest, sleekest, latest cars without the insane crowds that will swarm the show was an experience to be envied.

There were beautiful people at the Lotus-sponsored event, and many, many cars. The incredible silent auction was filled with everything from a dinner at Rao's to a Chanel handbag to a Fighter Pilot for a Day adventure.

Event co-chair Fe Fendi, looking superb in a pink silk dress with black-and-gray feather details that she designed with 22-year-old emerging designer Fabiola Arias, has been a longtime supporter of this event.

"The best thing you can give young people is an education," she said. "It's a wonderful cause. Combine that with beautiful and sexy cars, it's a great combination."

The Tribeca Film Festival celebrated its 10-year anniversary on Wednesday with a big bash featuring a concert by Elton John. But festival organizers didn’t have to push too hard to get the Rocket Man to tickle the ivories: The opening feature was The Union, Cameron Crowe’s documentary about John’s collaboration with Leon Russell.

The screening and concert at the World Financial Center were free and open to the public—and open the elements, as it was held outdoors, a risky move for April in New York. But luckily there was no rain, although it was nippy by the river. John confessed that his hands felt like ice while he played.

Before the screening, John said he’d be seeing the documentary for the first time: “I haven’t seen it yet, I’m going to be seeing it with everybody else tonight, so I’m very nervous.”

Jane Rosenthal, who co-founded the Tribeca Film Festival with Robert De Niro, said she can’t believe it’s been 10 years. “I didn’t know we would be doing a 10th festival after the first one because I didn’t realize we had signed multi-year deals with some of our sponsors,” she said. “So I thought the first one was it.”
