Holiday Lip Colors - The Season’s Sexiest Shades
Come the holidays, there seems to be a recurring beauty theme: lipstick. And, apparently, this year is no exception.
Pouts done in richer, bolder colors make everything seem more festive. Then there’s the ultimate statement-maker—a red lip. With its wintry appeal and stunningly swank affectations, which recall iconic screen sirens, you really can’t go wrong.
But to ring in 2012, top makeup brands played with their palettes to create vibrant and fun hues that go beyond the expected.
From an electric purple to a classic Bordeaux to a glistening gold—we rounded up the hottest hues of the season.
Better practice that sashay toward the mistletoe.
This bright, rich red features a slight fuchsia sparkle that delivers a cool, multi-dimensional tone, making it a super-standout. Lacquer it on and behold all the fun and feminine glory, and then bow down to the power that is Chanel: classic, far from boring, with a bit of edge.
Chanel Rouge Allure in Famous, $32.00; at department and specialty stores, Chanel.com.
Create the illusion of fuller, berry-bitten lips with this new opaque gloss. The trench coat empire’s foray into beauty is all about creating a natural look inspired by a “classic palette,” and its Lip Glows will give you just the right pop of subtle color. The emollient glosses glide on and stay put, while the formula is packed with a Ceramide complex to replenish and rebuild lips.
Burberry Beauty Lip Glow in Bright Plum No. 17, $27; at Burberry counters and Saks.com.
When you feel a bit nervous about rocking this bold hue to a cocktail party, just remember that Pat—as in McGrath, the makeup guru and D&G creative consultant—specially concocted this color to “bring light and vibrancy to the face.” The inspiration behind the Precious Stones collection was a girl gazing into a jewelry box, her face being lit up by the reflection of the gem stones and precious metals.
Dolce & Gabbana Classic Cream Lipstick in Purple Pearl, $30; at Saks.com.
This is the perfect shade for those wanting to keep it classic in red, but also wanting a bit of spice, which comes compliments of a fiery tinge of orange. The fashion designer’s Private Blend Collection lipsticks are “soft-matte,” full of bold pigment, and will last you the whole night through.
Tom Ford Private Blend Collection in Scarlet Rouge, $48; at Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus.
Keep that golden glow long into the winter months with Dior’s latest rouge. It goes on a lot more sheer than expected (no techno-sparkle here!), and we think it’ll do amazing things for brown eyes. Layer up the color gradually to really go for the gold!
Rouge Dior Lipstick in Or Divin #221, $32; at Dior.com.
The holiday collection from flamboyant figure skater Johnny Weir is full of spirit with no shortage of frost, shimmer, and sparkle. As expected, some offerings scream “Look at me!,” but what really caught our eye is this deep, berry rouge with a sultry satin finish that softly whispers “I don’t care, look at me if you want.” The rich, creamy shade is pure lip decadence, and not one for the faint of heart.
Mac What Joy!, $15.50; at MAC counters and MacCosmetics.com.
