On Wednesday night, the beauty and fashion obsessed flocked to the New Museum in Manhattan to celebrate the debut makeup collaboration between Gareth Pugh and MAC. We were hoping to get a glimpse of the new collection and the Pughian palette, but they were nowhere to be seen. The designer himself was tight-lipped. Oh, the anticipation is killing us.

“I didn’t want it to be something obvious from me," Pugh did say about the collection.  "I didn’t want it to be all about monochrome and black." He slyly dropped a hint about the color palette when he waved his hands at us, showing off his nails (a blackish purple color with green undertones). “A little sneaky hint of my nails… It flashes from purple to green, like an iridescent graphic kind of thing."  When asked if his nails are the preview, Pugh playfully said, “Yeah, that’s all you get." That was enough: Party-goers were abuzz about his nails for the rest of the night.

John Demsey, Group President of Estee Lauder Companies explained why the collection is so under wraps. “We treated this like a very special project. This project has been in the works for over 3.5 years … [Pugh] came to us and said, ‘I love MAC, I wear MAC, and I’d love to design and edit something for you.’ ” He described Pugh as having “such a strong vision in terms of futuristic inspiration and gothic, sensual, glamorous form."  He noted this collection is for a very grown-up, couture, glam MAC girl. He hinted the designs will be prismatic and geometric, but that's all we could get out of them. So makeup fanatics, you're just going to have to wait until November when the line debuts to see what they've cooked up.
