Alice Temperley, English designer of the Temperley London label and the Alice by Temperley bridge line, has been awarded a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for her service to the fashion industry.

Temperley wore a menswear-inspired black and white suit (topped off with a fedora) for the March 1 ceremony at Buckingham Palace, where she was presented with a medal by Queen Elizabeth II.

Other English fashion designers who’ve been honored with the distinction include Burberry’s Christopher Bailey, Hussein Chalayan, Luella Bartley (whose Luella line folded in 2009), and handbag designer Anya Hindmarch; British Vogue editor in chief Alexandra Shulman is an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE), a higher distinction.
