Sarah Jessica Parker Wants 'Sex and the City 3,' But No Prequel
Sex and the City fans were clinking their Cosmos at the news that a prequel was being planned with Blake Lively as an ’80s-era Carrie Bradshaw. The off-the-shoulder sweatshirts! The slouchy boots! The leg warmers!
The horror!
If Sarah Jessica Parker has her way, the heroine won’t be sporting acid-washed jeans anytime soon.
“I was like, ‘Wha-a-a-a-t?’” Parker told the L.A. Times of her reaction to the prequel reports. Though the style icon supports the idea of a Sex and the City film featuring twentysomethings, she doesn't necessarily want Carrie and Co. living in the Material Girl world.
“I don’t think we can pretend to go back,” she said of the film, which would see a 19-year-old Carrie arriving in the Big Apple. “It’s creating two histories. It's like, ‘Oh I didn’t know that about Carrie Bradshaw.’”
But don’t strangle yourself with a scrunchie just yet: Parker is ready to slip on some Louboutins and strut her stuff again in a third Sex and the City film.
“I would go back,” the fragrance mogul tells the newspaper. “I think there’s one more story to tell. I know there is. I’d definitely tell that [third] story, and I know Michael [Patrick King, the film’s writer/producer] would do it right.”
“But maybe not now," adds Parker, says, explaining that she wants to continue to challenge herself by playing different characters. “Maybe in five years, you know?”
