L'Uomo Vogue Planning Another Africa-Themed Issue
Less than a year ago Vogue Italia caught flak for describing a pair of oversized hoops as "slave earrings." So will editor-in-chief Franca Sozzani have better luck when the magazine's brother publication, L'Uomo Vogue, releases its second Africa-themed issue this summer?
The controversy-courting editrix has revealed to Styleite that she plans to follow up her November 2008 ode to Africa with a new tribute launching in May or June.
"[It will be] about Africa, but about people who are from Africa," Sozzani says. "In a positive way. In a very positive way.”
Though it's too early to divulge many details, Sozzani, who also helmed Vogue Italia's all-black issue, is quick to clarify that the issue will focus on more than just African designers and models.
“It will be about the presidents, it will be about the people," she says.
"But in a very positive way. I don’t want to say in a glamorous way, but I wanted to show the best side, but only the good side. There are a lot of talents, a lot of talented people in art, in music, in cinema, and everywhere. So I really wanted to push that side.”
Sounds great ... but tread carefully!
