Rodarte Launching Footwear
Sisters are doing it for themselves!
After scoring some major shoe collaborations with the likes of Christian Louboutin and Nicholas Kirkwood, Rodarte's Laura and Kate Mulleavy are stepping it up with their first solo footwear line, Footwear News reports.
Due to be unveiled at their Fall 2012 runway show on February 14, the six-style luxury range will hit stores between July and September and retail for $995 to just over $1,500.
“We have always designed shoes for our collections, and we have been very lucky to work with amazing collaborators,” Kate Mulleavy tells FN of the label's expansion.
“[Each of our collections] starts with a shoe idea, so it was [a natural move] ... The shoes [reflect] both the inspiration of the [Fall ’12 collection] and the aesthetics of Rodarte."
That translates to materials like wood, metal, canvas, and leather, as well as Victorian and utilitarian details and Plexiglas heels filled with colored sand, according to Brooks Tietjan of Iris, which will produce and distribute the footwear line.
Iris, which also works with Marc Jacobs, Chloé, and Jil Sander, plans to sell the shoes in finer department stores and its own Iris boutiques to start, but is open to expand distribution and lowering price points to a more affordable $395 to $695 range.
