Barneys New York’s flagship store is undergoing a major renovation.
Barneys New York’s Madison Avenue flagship is currently undergoing a major renovation, and one of the fruits of the project will be a new café on the eighth floor.
Named genes@coop after former Barneys CEO Gene Pressman, the café will feature food by Fred’s chef Mark Straussman and, according to Women’s Wear Daily, “innovative digital elements” as well.
Other changes to the store include a combined men’s and women’s Co-Op, an overhaul of floors five to eight, plus new flooring, fixtures, lighting and ceiling details on the main floor.
“[Barneys CEO] Mark Lee is truly trying to change the company,” a retail expert told WWD. “There’s this big investment in the image of the company that wasn’t happening before because of the recession and a lack of leadership. Mark has been able to get money to invest in the company [from parent Istithmar].”
