Antonio Marras Headed to Dior?
Fashion buzz has been focused on Humberto Leon and Carol Lim, founders of the cult favorite boutique Opening Ceremony, who have just been named the creative directors at Kenzo.
But what of outgoing creative director Antonio Marras? The designer, who’s overseen Kenzo’s men’s and women’s collections for seven years, is the latest name in the rumored running to fill the vacancy left at Dior by John Galliano's termination.
Both Dior and Kenzo are owned by LVMH, and previous reports have suggested that LVMH would prefer to hire from within the company. The Telegraph reports that Kenzo’s billion-dollar business is particularly strong in China and Russia—“both stomping grounds of Dior's core customer.”
No announcement has been made yet as to Marras’ next move, and no announcement has been made as to the future of Dior. But after an unenthusiastically received couture collection by Bill Gaytten, Galliano’s right-hand man, it’s expected that Dior will name a new creative director before the brand’s Spring 2012 showing in October.
