Bad Teacher star Cameron Diaz is vamping it up with a sexy Elle U.K. cover shoot that’s sure to land her in the principal’s office.
Fronting the June issue in a form-fitting black number, tousled hair, and barely a hint of makeup, the 38-year-old actress dishes about her enviable figure, working with ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake, and embracing her 30s.
Of Timberlake, who plays her object of affection in the film, Diaz says, "Life is long. Why would you ever live in the past when you can live in the present and allow the future to be bright and happy and exciting? There’s no reason. I think people’s mentality is, ‘It didn’t work out!’ But like, what didn’t work out? What’s supposed to happen?
"I think a lot of people are married to people that they’re not romantic with any more. I just didn’t ever marry anybody that I then had to get divorced from. We break up. We move on. All I want for him [Timberlake] is his happiness. And all he wants is my happiness. His isn’t reliant on me, and mine isn’t on him. It was at one point; we had that moment. But now … Let’s make a movie. Let’s go have some fun. We’re good at being funny together. We know how to do that. That’s easy."
The funnywoman—photographed by Jan Welters in everything from black hipster panties and a baby tee to a retro white one-piece swimsuit—is equally comfortable with getting older.
"I know what works for me, and I know what doesn’t, and that is a huge relief," she says, claiming that in her 20s she was "a very, very, very cynical person." "By the time you’re in your mid-30s, you’ve gained some knowledge–you’re like, ‘Oh yeah, I totally get it’ and then, in your late 30s, you start applying what you’ve learned, and your life just opens up."
Speaking of "what works," Diaz swears by a strict diet and exercise regimen to maintain her famous figure. She credits her athletic frame to "getting my ass to the gym," where she does 30 minutes of weight lifting followed by 20 minutes of cardio daily.
"I have never, ever watched what I eat in my life, but I do now," she says. "I’m off the fried foods. I’m very thoughtful about what I eat. If you’re gonna do heavy lifting, and you want to stay small, you have to watch what you eat. You have to give your body the right nutrients and really think about what’s best for it."
Judging by these smokin’ swimsuit snaps, we’d say she knows what she’s talking about!
