Fashion just got a bit more "cutting edge."
Fresh off his T-shirt collaboration with Tadashi Shoji, figure skater Johnny Weir is going from the rink to the runway (not literally) with the exclusive launch of his Little Black Dress collection for eDressMe.
Set to launch April 30, the Spring/Summer 2011 collection will feature six LBD styles boasting luxe fabrics like silk, tulle, crepe stretch jersey, silk taffeta, and antique matte satin.
And though the Olympian has made headlines for his fur-trimmed costumes, he'll be sticking with ostrich feathers, netting, and sequin accents for his first collection, which is priced between $198 to $298 and runs from size 0 to 12.
Available exclusively through eDressMe, the dresses will be modeled on the ice during the second annual Ice Dreams skating event in Bensenville, Ill. Perhaps Weir can follow up his Elise Øverland skating performance?
“With my name and legacy, people have learned to expect the unexpected, and this collection breaks the mold with its fresh and unique designs," Weir said in a press release. "The level of design is complemented by my understanding of a woman’s body, and my knack to refine the classic Little Black Dress with fanciful embellishments like feathers and sparkles.
“I can’t wait for this collection to hit eDressMe.com, but more importantly, I anticipate that women and my fans will enjoy my designs on a universal level, helping them feel even more beautiful than they already are."
And who knows? The collaboration could be just the beginning of Weir's career in fashion. Just ask former figure skater Vera Wang ...
