Evan Rachel Wood channels Veronica Lake for LA, L.A. Times Magazine.

She’s gone goth and she’s gone glam, but it might just be the Old Hollywood style that suits Evan Rachel Wood best. The actress showcases yet another dramatic look on the cover of LA, the Los Angeles Times Magazine.

Photographer Mark Segal shot the 23-year-old Mildred Pierce star for the cover, on which she sports an Old Hollywood ’do, red lips, and a Nina Ricci lace top. Inside, Wood ups the glamour in a black asymmetrical dress by Versace.

“I like a very strong female character,” Wood tells the magazine. “Something different, something edgier, something challenging and, basically, something that moves me. I just imagine myself being an audience member and thinking, What would I get out of this?”

Wood admits that her age isn’t always an asset when it comes to being taking seriously in the industry. “But I’ve been working since I was 5,” she says. “I’ve seen things and lived 50 lifetimes already.”

“For the Evan Rachel Wood photo shoot, we really wanted to pay tribute to classic film noir,” Rip Georges, the magazine’s creative director, tells FashionEtc.

“This is our annual Noir Issue and, of course, Evan is [appearing] in the Mildred Pierce miniseries in a role that’s very much of the classic noir era. Our stylist, Joanne Blades, created slinky, languid, elegant looks with mostly current pieces from Chanel, Nina Ricci, Versace, and Vionnet.

“Evan’s hair and makeup is inspired by Veronica Lake. Photographer Mark Segal did a beautiful job of bringing all of the elements together, capturing beautiful, noir-esque images.”

The issue will appear in print on Sunday and is available now on the iPad.
