In a special collaboration between Rodarte and Band of Outsiders's Scott Sternberg, the next Pitti Uomo and Pitti W is heading west, opting for a California vibe.

“The European curiosity about California culture and the landscape played an important role in Pitti’s decision to invite both designers to Florence at the same time,” Lapo Cianchi, director of communication and events at Pitti Immagine, said in a statement.

Pitti W is the women’s fair that complements the menswear trade show Pitti Uomo in Europe in June—though “trade show” doesn’t quite do this justice. Other designers who have held Rodarte’s place include Diane von Furstenberg, Proenza Schouler, Haider Ackermann, and more.

“We are honored to be invited by Pitti to present a special collection in Florence,” Rodarte's Kate Mulleavy said in a statement. “Italy has always captured our imaginations and inspired us artistically, so we look forward to having the opportunity to share our vision there.”

Rodarte has had quite the year thus far, having been lauded for its work with the film Black Swan and getting its very own exhibit at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles. We can't wait to see what the Mulleavys have in store for the rest of 2011.
