Leighton Meester Covers Marie Claire's April Issue
Marie Claire took Gossip Girl star Leighton Meester bowling for their April issue. In the cover story, out today, the low-key actress played a few frames at a midtown alley. She won't be quitting her day job, it seems: "I never played sports...I wasn't any good at them," Meester tells the magazine after throwing a few gutterballs.
Instead, her target was an acting career, from her early days as a 10-year-old model and, later, a preteen actress headed to L.A. for pilot season. Meester tells the magazine that she was so laser-focused on making it in Hollywood, she didn't even manage to attend her prom. (Take it from us, Leighton, you didn't miss much.)

Meester also confides in writer Allison Glock about her difficult childhood (both of her parents served time in prison): “My family has a crazy history. Probably the craziest I’ve heard of. I look back now and I see it in a nice light. It wasn’t uncomplicated. But I played outside. I went to the beach. There were happy, fun times.”
Nevertheless, her family often struggled to make ends meet. “I couldn’t relate to kid stuff. ‘Jimmy doesn’t like me!’ Who cares?," Meester says. "I was worried we didn’t have gas money or food. Those were my concerns.”
Also low on her priority list: romance. “I never had a boyfriend until I was 18. It’s nice, I guess–when you like them. But it isn’t the most important thing. I’m not sure I ever want to get married. The only time a relationship is good is when you really love them. I don’t want to hang out with some guy I just like.”

Leighton Meester wears Rochas in Marie Claire's April issue.
In the accompanying shoot, Meester breaks from her preppy-princess Blair Waldorf look, sporting a cream Rochas dress, a sweeping Theyskens' Theory ballgown, and a Goth-like ensemble by Calvin Klein.
The issue hits stands March 20.
