Mario Batali on Chopping Off Ponytail for Charity
Mario Batali is ready to slice and dice ... his hair.
The celebrity chef has pledged to cut off his famous red ponytail if Food & Wine's Chefs Make Change program can raise $500,000 for his Mario Batali Foundation by February 7. (The orange Crocs aren't going anywhere, people.)
Donations will be accepted via the Food & Wine Facebook page and Web site, and will go toward the foundation's efforts to support, empower and educate children.
"I have had a ponytail for 15 years," Batali tells FashionEtc exclusively.
When asked about possible new hairstyles, The Chew star told us that he's up for a new look, though admits that his hair may not be:
"I do not imagine I have enough hair for a fashion statement like a mohawk or even a faux hawk, but change is good, and Food & Wine's Chefs Make Change is a big event to really take a good look at chefs and their philanthropy."
Chefs like Alice Waters, Rick Bayless and Emeril Lagasse are also participating in the program.
See ya at the salon, Mario!
