Rihanna and David LaChapelle Settle Lawsuit
When David LaChapelle first saw Rihanna’s “S&M” video, things looked a little familiar—and the photographer was none too please.
The footage features a pink room strikingly similar to one in a LaChapelle picture as well as a dominatrix with a man on a leash and other images that he believed referenced his work.
And though the photographer took the pop star to court, suing for a reported $1 million in damages, the case has been settled. The New York Post reports that Rihanna has paid LaChapelle an undisclosed sum. "David is happy with the settlement," the lensman's publicist, Jaret Keller, told Page Six.
“I like RiRi,” LaChapelle said earlier this year. “This is not personal, it’s strictly business. Musicians commonly pay to sample music or use someone’s beats and there should be no difference when sampling an artist’s visuals.”
