Katie Holmes Talks Suri’s Style, Jackie O, and Fashion Line in Elle
Katie Holmes rocks high-waist Hermès trousers and a camisole from her own Holmes & Yang line on the February cover of Elle.
Photographed by Carter Smith, Holmes channels a sultrier look for the inside spread—which was inspired by the 1992 Japanese film Tokyo Decadence—thanks to tousled hair, a backless Tom Ford dress, and a 3.1 Phillip Lim trenchcoat.
Of course, looking chic is a cinch when you’ve got a 4-year-old fashion expert at home.
“She’ll really tell me [what she thinks],” the 32-year-old actress says of stylish daughter Suri.
“Like today I’m wearing brown suede pants, and she said, ‘I don’t like your pants.’ But then she’ll say, ‘You’ve got to wear these shoes.’ Or ‘That’s so pretty, Mom. Wear that.’ She’s got a great eye.”
And according to Holmes, the heel-wearing, Ferragamo-bag-toting tyke also (not surprisingly) enjoys a bit of retail therapy.
“The other day we came out of a store, and she said, ‘I want to go there,’ pointing at another store quite a distance away,” she tells Elle.
“In that store was the dress that she wanted. I said, ‘Wow, Suri. You’re something. You picked that out from a football field away.’”
But Holmes knows a thing or two about fashion herself, co-designing the Holmes & Yang line with stylist Jeanne Yang.
“I have such an appreciation for the fine details and the amount of work it takes,” she says.
“I really appreciate clothing and designers so much more. It’s made shopping even better.”
Next up for the brunette beauty? Playing Jackie Kennedy in the upcoming History Channel miniseries The Kennedys.
Calling the Kennedys “movie stars,” the former Dawson’s Creek star found her journey from Capeside to Camelot a challenging one.
“I worked as hard as I could, because I loved her,” she says of the former First Lady.
“On set there was this feeling that we had to create something very special, because these people were very special.”
