Looks from the Nicole Miller Fall 2011 collection.
SHOW: Nicole Miller
THEME: David Bowie inspired. Edgy androgyny meets sci-fi
ACCESSORIES: Studded, open-toe booties
OVERALL TAKEAWAY: To be expected, Miller's dresses were the high point in a futuristic show
The designer has been experimenting with darker hues and harder edges for several seasons. For Fall 2011, she delved even deeper, showing a collection with a moodier focus. Opting for sharper angles and asymmetrical lines, Nicole Miller was clearly aiming for a younger customer.
Colors ranged from charcoals to black with pops of coral red and deep sea blue-greens. The geometric prints, along with the structured shoulders and metal embellishments gave the pieces a futuristic feel. A mix of velvet, athletic jersey, and twill added depth to the collection.
Leather sleeves and cuffs lent edge to ribbed cotton tops, but the belted coats and blazers were not altogether flattering. One has to wonder if the use of what appears to be broadtail fur could prove too over the top for her loyal clientele.
