Looks from the Steven Alan Fall 2011 collection.
SHOW: Steven Alan
THEME: Americana-/utilitarian-/preppy-infused True Grit
OVERALL TAKEAWAY: Flat-brimmed Marlboro Man hats, tight-fitting beanies, exposed socks, elaborate floral prints mixed with toned-down leopard
It was a throwback to the utilitarian workwear days of centuries-old Middle America as Steven Alan unveiled his latest collection at Pier 59 Studios. For his Fall 2011 designs, Alan infused the rustic aesthetic of corn-fed glamour with the mean streets of the Upper East Side. From the muted denim overalls to the bright-colored accessories paired with a distressed-camouflage-tone palette, Alan brought out a multitude of heavy layering, often with chunky exposed socks completing the desired look. And, for the first time, he seemed to mix it up a little, infusing an element not common to his established moniker: plaid. It was a mixed bag, as Alan threw in toned-down leopard basics, wide-leg Easter egg floral bottoms, and a luscious red velvet overcoat and multitiered miniskirt that seemed to be sliced directly from the namesake cake. Second helpings? Yes, please.
