OVERALL TAKEAWAY: Last season, Michael Kors took us to Africa with a collection inspired by his time spent at the Lobombo Lodge. This season, he brought things a little closer to home—and it was all the more successful for it.
“Rugged elegance” were Kors’ buzzwords for Fall, which opened with a red and black buffalo check blanket coat. It looked covetably cozy—but thanks to its pairing with a cashmere sweater and briefs, it was also sexy in the way Kors does so well.
With buffalo checks and plaids mixed with body-con leather pieces, sweater dresses, sequins, and a healthy dose of incredibly luxe fox fur, these were pieces that you wear to your country cabin to unwind—if you happen to be the impossibly glamorous Kors woman. (We imagine someone else will be chopping your firewood.)
Kors showed that “rugged” certainly doesn’t have to mean “rough.” There was a gorgeous bright crimson overcoat trimmed in fox tossed causally over a red charmeuse slip, and a breezy herringbone-print chiffon blouse and skirt combo that was sophisticated but effortless.
And though there may not be many red carpets in the country, Kors had plenty to offer his city-dwelling social types as well, like a stunning red beaded lace number and a series of sparkling paillette-encrusted chemise dresses. Oscars, anyone?
