It's no surprise that Anthropologie —purveyor of kitschy homegoods and just short-of-mainstream clothes— has tapped New Zealand designer Karen Walker for a new collaboration. There's no derision in that statement: Both have seamlessly built their businesses based on characterizing the girlish consumer to a T, and after today's show, we're more excited than ever to get our hands on—and feet in—some of Walker's goods.
Attending fashion week in the winter means you'll see dark tones and heavy layers on the runway—similar to what you're already wearing. However, Walker's playful skirts, bright pops of neon, and a large palette of gold were a welcome surprise for what lies ahead come next autumn. Clovers, whales, and a fun riff on paisley could have been overwhelming patterns for the already-youthful silhouettes, but they didn't dumb down the Karen Walker girl. She is still downtown cool but not totally out of place in Palm Springs. Aquatic kitsch? Sign us up.
