OVERALL TAKEAWAY: Attention, model off duty types! Olivier Theyskens has put his glam spin on grunge once again.

A few years ago, hearing the names Olivier Theyskens and Andrew Rosen (that would be Theory’s head honcho) in the same sentence would have any fashion follower scratching their well-coiffed head. Today? It’s like they’ve been together all along.

Theyskens has defined his aesthetic for Theory, and girly types and preppies need not apply here. Denim came in baggy boyfriend cuts and washes that looked slightly dirty, often stuffed into the tops of knee high boots for a bit of a swashbuckler effect. Sweaters were slouchy, jackets and overcoats were sharply tailored, and leather was used copiously, in everything from a jumpsuit to a metallic A-line midi skirt.

Theyskens’ take on evening was interesting to see here, if only because the girls with a penchant for grunge don’t usually have many after-dark options. It was hard to see those girls in his full-skirted, full-sleeved cocktail dresses, but one shimmering golden gown was lovely without veering out of the label’s decidedly edgy territory. It seems like Theyskens is still finding his way there—but it’s certainly fun to watch.
