Exclusive: Kenneth Cole Talks Spring 2013, His Controversial Ad Campaigns and Fashion Role Model

Coinciding with Kenneth Cole's Spring 2013 presentation was an announcement that he will be returning to the New York Fashion Week runway for the first time in more than six years.

Amidst all the buzz, Kenneth Cole took a moment to talk to FashionEtc backstage at his Spring 2013 presentation.

The scene: Organized chaos of hair and makeup teams giving the girls and boys a futuristic-chic look, along with the stylists and photographers shooting the actual Spring 2013 lookbook images and top editors like Joe Zee and Robbie Myers floating around to catch a glimpse of the pieces before the models paraded out to the dimly-lit NYC West Side space for a two hour-long presentation.

A calm and collected Kenneth snuck away from the staging area to talk to us about the inspiration for Spring 2013—a modern-nomadic theme with a North African influence, his history of politically-charged ad campaigns, and his first fashion memory and industry role model.
