Inès de la Fressange on Style Mantras, Chanel Tees, and Her Next Book Title
It’s an American fashion-lover’s eternal question: How can French women be so chic? Inès de la Fressange has the answer—and then some.
The supermodel (full name: Inès Marie Lætitia Églantine Isabelle de Seignard de La Fressange—seriously!) is already a former Chanel muse and a current Roger Vivier brand ambassador, and this week L’Oréal Paris tapped the 54-year-old as a global spokesperson.
But that’s not all.
De la Fressange is also a published author: Her latest tome, Parisian Chic: A Style Guide, comes out this month.
The book, which features her gorgeous daughter Nine D’Urso as a model, shares de la Fressange’s best style secrets, from where to shop in Paris to makeup tips to avoid to how to decorate your home. (Jealous yet? De la Fressange also did the book’s adorable illustrations herself.)
Needless to say, we want to be her.
FashionEtc gave de la Fressange a lightning round of questions on her personal style, her worst faux pas (Chanel!), and the next books she’d like to pen. We’d read them!
Why are French women inherently chic?
Because they know that “less is best.”
What is the one thing American women always get wrong, fashion wise, and how would you fix it?
Sometimes they want to look wealthy. Who cares?
What are the pieces you find yourself wearing most?
Navy blue jackets. They save all kinds of situations …
What's the best fashion advice anyone ever gave you?
Don't put a necklace on if you have earrings.
What's the biggest fashion faux pas you ever made?
A T-shirt with the Chanel logo on it. I was the first one to have it, so it was fun … but stupid!
Which celebrity has the best style right now?
Alexa Chung.
What was it like working with your daughter on this book?
Cheap! No, I am joking. Actually it was a way to have someone gorgeous but not a model.
Would you like to write any other books in the future?
How to Work Less; Say to Your Man He Is the Best; Change the Decoration of Your Home; Who Is Really Karl Lagerfeld? Don’t ask me! I have too much imagination!
