Milly's Michelle Smith Talks March of Dimes Charity and Her Daughter's Design Tips
A little post-work summer shopping? Don't mind if we do!
Pencil skirt-clad young ladies sipped champagne and scoured the racks of Milly's signature bright colors and bold designs last night at the designer's fifth annual Summer Soirée, benefiting the March of Dimes charity.
Amidst the shopping chaos, Michelle Smith took a moment to talk to FashionEtc about her relationship with the charity, her design process and everyone's favorite season: summer!
Dressed in a breezy Milly Spring 2012 dress and Marni heels, Michelle mastered the the look of casual-chic summer style. "For summer, I love an easy dress, like this one I'm wearing. I love a colorful, low-key look paired with a more aggressive shoe," she said, showing off her statement wedges.
In terms of the charity, Michelle said, "I've been on the board of directors for March of Dimes for five years and I started this Milly sale five years ago. The sale is current Spring 2012 looks and samples. Everything is discounted but I donate 100% of the proceeds from the sale to the charity."
"March of Dimes is a wonderful charity that works to prevent childhood birth defects and premature births. I have two little children—Sophia is five and William is two and a half—so this charity is very important to me."
Michelle, who just started working on Spring 2013, said her kids are a great inspiration to her. "Sophia especially. I always have her around, especially during fashion show time when I have to work Saturdays and Sundays before the show. She loves to watch the show. Normally she sits on my mothers lap. She talks about every look that goes down the runway and critiques it. It's so funny. There is a pink dress with black lace print for fall that she really loves."
