Evita's Swarovski-embellished ballgown

Long before Madonna portrayed the controversial Argentinian first lady Eva Perón in the 1996 film Evita, Broadway lay claim to the emotive musical.

Now the musical hit gets a contemporary update, thanks to a little on-stage panache from Ricky Martin and dazzling costumes embellished with Swarovski crystals.

The iconic crystal company acts as leading partner for the new production, and with costume designer Christopher Oram's skilled hand, the outfits and choreographed numbers take equal billing.

Case in point: Evita, as portrayed by Elena Roger, wears a white ballgown, designed with 160,000 crystals, during the famous "Don't Cry for Me, Argentina" ballad. Oram used crystal, jet hematite, and black diamond, to name a few, in different cuts and colors to maximize the shimmer effect. Over 340,000 Swarovski elements total were used in the entire production.
