The Double Seven lounge in New York City's Meatpacking District was teeming with fashion writers, designers and style socialites at Refinery29's party to kick-off New York Fashion Week.

Tumbling in from the evening presentations at the adjacent Milk Studios, the crowd was buzzing with energy from the first day of shows. (The fashion fatigue hasn't hit quite yet). Co-hosts for the night included Hannah Bronfman, Alejandro Ingelmo, Natalie Joos, Jenne Lombardo, Karen Walker and Elettra Wiedemann, while other fashion insiders in attendance were Ally Hilfiger, Louise Roe and The Man Repeller's Leandra Medine. The crowd danced to the best of 80's and 90's pop and sipped on fruity vodka cocktails in the cozy lounge space.

Dressed in her signature downtown-chic bright colors, Solange Knowles made her way to the DJ booth for a special set on the turntables. FashionEtc nabbed a second to talk with Solange about her fashion week plans as she pushed through the crowd. "Well, I'm not doing a really intense fashion week. I'm DJ-ing a lot. But after the week, I'm going to Jamaica, so I'm excited about that."

As Solange took over the music, we spotted dreamy shoe designer Alejandro Ingelmo, who talked to us about his fashion week plans. "I'm designing shoes for Kimberly Ovitz and a couple other shows. We are also doing Michael Bastian on the men's side and this is the first time I've done anything with a men's designer so I'm super excited about that. Also, this is the second time I'll be showing at Milk Studios and this time we are using video and more interactive tools which is exciting. After New York, I'm going to London, so everything will finally end in March and I'm looking forward to being home and going to Soul Cycle."

We couldn't help but ask about his Valentine's Day plans. "Nothing. Nobody yet," he laughed. Sigh.

Jewelry designer Anna Sheffield caught our eye in a silver sparkly jacket fit for a fashion's night out. She told us, "I think I'm wearing my favorite outfit of the week right now. It's the first night of fashion week, I'm listening to L.L., I'm wearing one of my favorite ripped up t-shirts, my favorite black Levis, some pretty comfortable shoes and my favorite sparkly jacket. I'm a jewelry designer so I always have to have something sparkly."

Sheffield let us in on her fashion week coping mechanism. "Eating lots of spicy food. I grew up in New Mexico and I feel like spicy food helps my motivation. If I don't get a good night sleep, it's all about the cream cheese in the morning."

We have a feeling a lot of people hit the cream cheese this morning.
